The Wayfinders

Reasons behind my Book Choice

    For my next selection of books, I ultimately decided upon The Wayfinders written by Wade Davis. The book's main slogan is "Why ancient wisdom matters in the modern world". I could not agree more with this statement, which was the biggest selling point of this book for me. Throughout the novel, the author travels to indigenous areas and explores many different cultures in the process. With each culture, Wade gains a new appreciation of not only the cultures, but overall life and seeks to celebrate each culture and their morals.

    Before diving into his experiences, Wade opens up his book by discussing the current state of our cultural world, or our ethnosphere. This is made up of the world's cultures, thoughts, myths, beliefs, or even inspirations created by the human imagination since the beginning of time. He goes further by discussing the current downfall of our ethnospshere. For example, he pointed out how almost half of all languages spoken on Earth are near extinction along with their respective cultures. This is an idea I have really never thought of, and I doubt that this is a false statement. As a result, this is a book that I am really excited to explore and learn from as I tackle the following chapters.
